China's EV Market in Week 32 of 2023: A Look at the Numbers
In the third week of July, China's electric vehicle (EV) market saw some significant shifts, with various manufacturers reporting their sales figures.
Leading the pack was BYD, who sold the most new energy vehicles in China during this week. The company's premium brand, Denza, sold three models - the MPV D9 and SUVs N7 and N8.
BYD's success was closely followed by Li Auto, who delivered 7,200 units in China. Interestingly, Li Auto only sells range-extended electric vehicles (EREVs). The company is planning to launch its first all-electric vehicle next year.
Tesla also had a strong showing, delivering 14,000 units in China, marking an increase from the previous week. Tesla China also slashed the price of the Model 3 Long Range by 1,400 USD less than a month after launch.
Amongst the domestic brands, Xpeng and Zeekr reported sales of 2,800 and 1,700 units respectively. However, Zeekr saw a 32% decrease from the previous week, while Xpeng managed to maintain its sales figures. The Zeekr mid-size SUV Zeekr X, which received great reviews, is expected to be exported to Europe soon.
The Xpeng G6 SUV carries huge expectations for the company, and Nio's Onvo contributed over half of Nio's volume in August. Nio also unveiled the seven-seater L90 at the Chengdu Auto Show. Despite the competition, Nio achieved all-time high deliveries in August.
Deepal (Shenlan) and Huawei's Aito also reported sales of 2,900 and 700 units respectively. Deepal currently sells two cars in China: an SL03 sedan and an S7 SUV.
Lastly, Great Wall Motors brand Wey sold 600 units in week 32 of 2023. As the EV market in China continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these numbers change in the coming weeks.
