In an impressive display of athleticism, Jane Maus, a renowned trail runner and climber, set a new women's unsupported Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Grand Teton on August 22. Maus completed the 14.5-mile trail with 7,100 vertical feet of elevation gain in an astonishing 3 hours and 45 minutes, beating her previous best time by 12 minutes.

Originally from Park City, Utah, but now residing in Boulder, Colorado, Maus has been honing her skills on the challenging trails of the Rockies. The Grand Teton route, known for its steep, rocky terrain, is no exception. Maus specializes in class 5 scrambling, making her well-equipped to tackle the mountain's challenges.

Prior to her August 22 attempt, Maus had only attempted the Grand Teton peak five times. Despite her previous attempts, she had never run the Grand Teton route faster than 4 hours and 27 minutes. However, on this day, she managed to shave off significant time, setting a new FKT.

Maus's partner was expecting her at the trailhead around the 4-hour mark, but she arrived 15 minutes earlier, a testament to her speed and endurance. Interestingly, Maus did not cut the infamous first switchback on the descent, choosing instead to maintain a cautious and controlled pace.

Following her historic achievement, Maus plans to participate in the Grand Targhee Cirque Series race on August 30. She also has her sights set on other challenging objectives, such as the Longs Peak FKT and the Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup (WURL).

Unfortunately, the day of Maus's FKT attempt was marred by an alleged high-end rally that was involved in drag racing along an iconic stretch of road in Grand Teton National Park. Participants from this rally were arrested, and luxury cars were impounded.
