Racecourse Betting Tips for 'Travers Day' 2025 at Saratoga

Saratoga Race Course is gearing up for an exciting weekend of racing, with several Graded Stakes events scheduled. Here's a preview of the races and the horses to watch.

Race 11: The Grade 1 Resorts World Casino Ballerina Stakes (7 furlongs, dirt)

Jose Alvarado and Chad Brown, the top jockey-trainer combo in the field, will be representing Sovereignty in this race. Sovereignty, trained by Brown, is none other than the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner, making him the best three-year-old in the sport.

Race 12: The Grade 1 Forego Stakes (1.25 miles, dirt)

This race will feature ten horses, and one to keep an eye on is Majestic Oops. Despite having the second-longest odds of her career, Majestic Oops has three wins and three seconds in eight races this year, and has run faster in five consecutive outings.

Race 13: The Grade 1 Travers Stakes (1 1/4 miles, dirt)

The Travers Stakes is the highlight of the weekend, featuring five horses. The contender to beat is Sovereignty, but Strategic Focus, with Jose Alvarado in the saddle, could pose a challenge. Chad Brown, Strategic Focus' trainer, will add blinkers to help the colt's stretch running and manage his immaturity, hoping for improvement in this lightly raced horse's fourth start over the 1 1/4-mile distance at Saratoga.

Meanwhile, Brightwork, undefeated in her three races at Saratoga, all Graded stakes races, could also make a strong showing. Despite being a two-year-old champion filly, Brightwork has the longest odds of her career in this race.

Race for Three-Year-Olds and Upward (1.25 miles, dirt)

Book'em Danno, with a strong course history at Saratoga, is another horse to watch. He won the Alfred Vanderbilt in Saratoga last month, beating Grade 2 competition by 2.5 lengths.

Race for Four-Year-Olds and Upward (7 furlongs, dirt)

The Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes will feature seven horses, and Horse #4 Book'em Danno (8-5) is the one to watch.

In the midst of all the excitement, jockey Kendrick Carmouche is having his best season at Saratoga this summer.

As for bets, despite loving Sovereignty, the author is betting a cold and boxed Exacta on Sovereignty and Strategic Focus due to the high price of Sovereignty and the amount of money being bet on earlier races.

With these exciting races ahead, Saratoga Race Course is set for an unforgettable weekend of horse racing.
