Horse Training Update: American Affair and Eternal Sunshine
Trainer Jim Goldie has revealed some updates about his stable horses, American Affair and Eternal Sunshine.
The performance of American Affair, who won the Portland Handicap last September, has been under scrutiny due to his recent struggles on less than ideal ground conditions. While the horse showed promise in his second run in Pattern company at Royal Ascot, an MRI revealed some concerns that have led Goldie to rule him out for the rest of the season.
However, Goldie remains optimistic about American Affair's recovery and expects him to make a full return next year. The horse has been out of action since a bone scan revealed an issue in June.
On a more positive note, Eternal Sunshine, a stablemate of American Affair, has been in excellent form. Goldie, entered the Portland Handicap at Doncaster on September 13, 2025, and her recent win indicates that she could be a strong contender for the race.
As for American Affair, while his future plans are uncertain due to his current condition, Goldie has expressed interest in entering another stable horse in the Portland Handicap. The horse in question is improving and is expected to be reassessed before next Saturday. If the ground conditions are favourable, the horse could be an interesting addition to the Portland Handicap lineup.
Unfortunately, the hopes for American Affair's return for the Breeders' Cup or British Champions Sprint Stakes have been dashed, but fans can look forward to his potential comeback next year.
In conclusion, while American Affair's recovery takes priority, the promising form of Eternal Sunshine offers a glimmer of hope for Goldie's stable in the upcoming Portland Handicap at Doncaster.
