Racing organizations Mercedes and ADAC are on a hunt for Germany's next Formula One driver prospect.

In an exciting development for motorsport enthusiasts in Germany, Mercedes-Benz and the Automobile Club of Germany (ADAC) have joined forces to find the next German Formula 1 star. The talent search, open to boys and girls aged between 10 and 12, marks a significant step towards revitalising German motorsport.

The joint initiative, known as Motorsport Team Germany, aims to identify and nurture young talents who show promise in the world of motorsport. Elia Weiss and Montego Maassen, two promising young racers already sponsored by Motorsport Team Germany, have already received support from Mercedes.

Mercedes will provide financial backing to help find and develop the next German Formula 1 talent. This support includes covering the costs for a talent's further career, requiring a double-digit million euro amount, from karting stages to formula racing.

The selected talents will receive financial support, access to identical racing equipment, training, and potential full sponsorship up to a Formula 1 seat with Mercedes. The talents will be continuously evaluated and groomed within Mercedes' junior program, led by Gwen Lagrue, who is responsible for drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.

The ADAC will select around five talents annually for a special scouting event, considering each talent's background, including testing days and experience. The ADAC supports around 30 young drivers in various series through its Sports Foundation.

Toto Wolff, Team Principal of Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, acknowledges the financial investment required to reach this point in motorsport. However, he emphasises that Mercedes has a strong tradition with German drivers and the mindset is to want the best drivers in the world.

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius reiterates this sentiment, stating that while they aim to have the best drivers in the world, they also have a strong tradition with German drivers. He encourages young people in Germany to get into motorsport, with the possibility of one day being in the cockpit of a Mercedes AMG.

Interestingly, the German Grand Prix has not taken place for several years. However, with this new initiative, there is a renewed hope that a German driver will once again take the top tier of motorsport by storm. In the 2025 Formula 1 season, Nico Hülkenberg is the sole German representative.

This collaboration between Mercedes and the ADAC comes at a time when interest in Formula 1 in Germany is declining compared to the global trend. The biggest problem in German motorsport's youth is a lack of funding, with a season in karting costing several hundred thousand euros. This initiative aims to address this issue and bring a German driver back into the top tier of motorsport.

The talent search begins this year, with a new attempt planned for 2026 if no suitable talent is found. Mercedes and the ADAC are optimistic about the potential of young German talent and look forward to the journey of discovering the next German Formula 1 star.
