Rail Authority Directs Disassembly of Footpath Adjacent to Mahachai Track
In a recent development, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has demanded the removal of an unauthorised asphalt walkway built parallel to the Mahachai rail line in Thon Buri district. The demand was made in a letter dated August 15 to the Thon Buri district office.
Photos on Jirasek Wattanamongkon's Facebook page, a Pheu Thai councillor for Thon Buri, show district workers refurbishing the walkway. However, no date is provided for when the work was carried out. According to another post by the local politician, the small walkway made it more convenient for pedestrians to walk in the area.
The location of the walkway is on a single-track line that runs from Wong Wian Yai in Bangkok to Mahachai station in Samut Sakhon province. The origin or construction date of the walkway is not specified.
The SRT has requested that the walkway be closed and the area restored to its original state. The demand was made in an official notification, citing safety concerns for trains and pedestrians as the reason. The SRT claims that the walkway could potentially damage trains, property, and endanger the lives of pedestrians.
It is important to note that the name of the politician who operates the asphalt road in Thon Buri is not publicly available information at this time.
The walkway is situated between Wutthakat and Khlong Tonsai in Thon Buri district. The SRT has stated that any damage incurred from the path will be the district's responsibility. This incident serves as a reminder for the importance of adhering to safety regulations and obtaining necessary authorisations before undertaking such projects.
