Ulysse Nardin Unveils Limited-Edition Freak Crystalium Watch

Swiss luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has introduced a new addition to its renowned Freak collection – the Freak Crystalium. Priced at 42,000 euros, this limited edition timepiece features a unique design that sets it apart from any other watch in the market.

The Freak Crystalium's dial, case, and key components are made from Crystalium, a high-tech material based on ruthenium. This innovative material is formed in a highly precise gas phase process, resulting in unique geometric patterns that give each watch a distinct character.

Ulysse Nardin first established itself as a pioneer in silicon technology with the introduction of the original Freak watch in 2001. The Freak Crystalium continues this legacy, driven by the automatic caliber UN-230, developed in Ulysse Nardin's Sigatec laboratory for silicon technology.

The Freak Crystalium retains the original Freak's radical and uncompromising DNA. Its case, made of black DLC-coated titanium and measuring 43 millimeters, is a testament to the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of watchmaking.

The time in the Freak Crystalium watch is indicated via a rotating carousel, with the hours shown by the Crystalium disc itself. A skeletonized arrow indicates the minutes, moving in a circle around the dial. The watch also boasts a power reserve of 72 hours.

Each disc of the Freak Crystalium is a unique combination of natural process, science, and craftsmanship. The crystal relief of the watch is enhanced with a rose gold PVD coating and subtle black shading, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the already impressive design.

It's worth noting that the TAG Heuer Carrera Astronomer is a separate watch series. The Freak watch, however, has inspired over 20 patents due to its revolutionary design that lacked a crown, classic hands, and dial.

The Freak Crystalium is a limited edition, with only 50 examples being created worldwide. This exclusivity, coupled with its unique design and innovative technology, makes the Freak Crystalium a must-have for any serious watch collector.

In 2019, Ulysse Nardin released the Freak X, a more wearable version of the Freak with a diameter of 43 millimeters and a crown. The Freak X retained the original Freak's radical, uncompromising, and different DNA, providing an alternative for those who appreciate the Freak's style but prefer a more traditional wearing experience.

The Freak Crystalium is a testament to Ulysse Nardin's commitment to innovation and its ability to push the boundaries of watchmaking. Each Freak Crystalium watch is a unique piece due to the unique crystal structure of the Crystalium material, making it a truly one-of-a-kind timepiece.
