Recent findings on elementary education - Surveillance Report 2024/25
In a significant development, a comprehensive monitoring system has been implemented for children's education and care in Austria. The monitoring report, published by Statistik Austria, offers a detailed overview of the current status and improvements in the expansion and quality of children's education and care across the country.
The report presents data categorised by federal states and districts, including visit rates, extended visit rates, daycare by day parents, opening hours, staff, and elementary educational institutions. A Dashboard for Interactive Visualizations is available in STATatlas for detailed results.
One of the key findings of the report is the rise in visit rates for children aged 3 to 6 since the federal government's cost-sharing in 2008. The visit rate has increased from 86.6% to 94.6%, demonstrating a notable improvement in children's access to early education and care. Similarly, the visit rate for children under 3 years old has risen from 14% to 36.9%, reflecting a positive trend in the sector.
However, it's important to note that the monitoring report does not provide specific data about staff or opening hours for individual elementary educational institutions in each federal state and district. Additionally, the report does not present data on improvements in the expansion and quality of children's education and care in each federal state and district for the current year.
The third iteration of the monitoring report also provides a publicly accessible overview of children's education and care in Austria. Alongside this, STATatlas offers maps for Visit Rates, Extended Visit Rates, and Daycare by Day Parents in Austria, making the data easily accessible and understandable for the general public.
The monitoring system aims to assess the current status and demonstrate improvements in the expansion and quality of children's education and care. The report serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, educators, and parents alike, providing insights into the state of early childhood education and care in Austria.
Despite the report's limitations, it presents a clear picture of improvements in children's education and care in Austria. The Monitoring Report 2024/25, which focuses on Statistics on Elementary Education in Austria, is expected to build upon these findings, providing even more comprehensive data for the future.
