Recipient of Humanitarian Award: Edo IDP Camp Coordinator Honored as a 'Living Legacy'
In a heartwarming ceremony organised by the Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards (HSD Award) in Abuja, Mr Solomon Folorunsho, Coordinator of the Home for the Needy Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, was honoured with the "Living Legacy" Humanitarian Award 2025. The prestigious award was presented by the Living Legacy Foundation.
Folorunsho, recognised for his exceptional track record in national development, societal upliftment, and relentless service to humanity, emphasised the importance of translating humanitarian ideals into daily practice. He stressed that it is the duty of the humanitarian community to prevent and alleviate suffering wherever it is found, with a special focus on the most vulnerable.
Folorunsho pointed out that many in society are weak, disabled, homeless, and displaced. He expressed that when they are left without help, some resort to self-help, which often leads to crime. He shared his belief that every person in need in Nigeria's streets has the potential to become a doctor, engineer, president, or lawyer. Offering help to the needy, regardless of religion, he asserted, touches the heart of God.
Dr. Bashir Jamoh, a past Director-General of NIMASA, also received an award and emphasised the vulnerability of Nigerians in the North East. He urged the media to help change negative narratives and draw attention to the plight of the less privileged. He concluded that if equal opportunities are given to every human being, good results will be seen everywhere.
The HSD Award ceremony was held in commemoration of the World Humanitarian Day on Aug. 20. The event, an annual occasion, celebrates individuals and organisations for their contributions to humanitarian causes and societal development. This year, the ceremony highlighted compassion, service, and the pursuit of human dignity, recognising those who have made lasting impacts through community development, philanthropy, and social responsibility.
In other recent news by the same publication, there have been reports about the validation of the ECOWAS Court protocol, librarians embracing AI, data protection, and Afreximbank's A-rating. The Home for the Needy IDP camp's activities are aimed at serving humanity, and the article was edited by Sadiya Hamza.
Jamoh called for a central body to protect humanitarian workers in the North East due to frequent attacks and threats. He expressed concern about the vulnerability of these workers, who are crucial in providing aid and support to those in need.
Folorunsho's acceptance speech concluded with a heartfelt message, expressing that his experience shows that persons who are helped, regardless of age, will be blessed by God. His journey in humanitarian work serves as a testament to the transformative power of compassion and service.
