Red Cross Recognizes Family of ASI Worker with an Honor

In a heartwarming ceremony held by the Lower Bucks County Chapter of The American Red Cross in April 2007, Alex Maratea was recognised with a Real Heroes award. The recognition came in appreciation of an extraordinary act of heroism that took place just a few blocks away from Trevose, PA's train station.

The incident unfolded while Alex Maratea and her sister, Nikki, were purchasing tickets to board a local train. Suddenly, a gust of wind pushed Derrian's stroller down the platform and over its edge, landing on the tracks four feet below. With an oncoming train approaching, Alex Maratea leapt onto the train tracks, bravely rescuing Derrian from the overturned stroller.

Alex's quick actions ensured Derrian's safety, and her sister, Nikki, safely received Derrian from Alex on the platform above. The heroic act went unnoticed until later, when it was discovered that Alex had avoided the electrified third rail during her rescue.

Timothy M. Andrews, president of ASI, expressed pride in Alex's actions and congratulated the Maratea family. ASI, the largest media and marketing organization serving the advertising specialty industry, honoured Alex Maratea with the Real Heroes award from The American Red Cross.

ASI offers a variety of resources to its members, including interactive e-commerce, marketing, and selling tools, catalogs, informational directories, newsletters, magazines, websites, and databases. Timothy M. Andrews believes that there are many hidden heroes in local communities who make a positive impact, and he encourages recognising these individuals for their acts of kindness, volunteerism, and leadership.

Alex Maratea is the daughter of ASI employee, Jim Maratea. The Real Heroes awards recognise individuals who have exhibited exceptional acts of heroism in their local communities. Timothy M. Andrews believes that Alex's story is a testament to the courage and selflessness that can be found in ordinary people, and he hopes that her story inspires others to take action when they see a need in their own communities.
