Redefines Home for Minnesota's Brave: Veteran Village Restructures Shelter for Heroes

The Housing First Minnesota Foundation, in its ongoing commitment to support veterans, has announced the creation of a unique project called Veteran Village. This multi-unit community, designed to offer housing for up to 36 Minnesota veterans and their families, is a testament to the Foundation's Housing for Heroes initiative.

Veteran Village is more than just a housing project; it aims to provide a space where veterans and their families can rebuild with stability, dignity, and community. The goal is to offer a solution to the ongoing issue of veteran homelessness in Minnesota.

The Fundraising for Veteran Village has already begun, with the Housing First Minnesota Foundation leading the charge. The Foundation launched its most ambitious fundraising campaign last year, raising nearly $1.5 million. The Lennar Foundation has shown its support by providing a $500,000 matching grant for the campaign. The Minnesota housing industry has also extended its generosity, contributing significantly to the fundraising effort.

The project is being developed alongside presenting build partner Lennar, the Lennar Foundation, premier build partner Pulte Homes of Minnesota, LLC, Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, and foundation supporters. Breaking ground this spring, Veteran Village will be the first-of-its-kind community in Minnesota.

The ongoing fundraising for Veteran Village will continue through the fall, aiming to raise an additional $1 million. Once completed, Veteran Village is anticipated to help Minnesota declare the effective end of veteran homelessness statewide. It signifies that there will be a process and resources in place to ensure housing for any veteran in need.

Since 2017, the Housing for Heroes initiative has created over 39,500 square feet of supportive housing for Minnesota veterans. Jessica Ryan, executive director of Housing First Minnesota Foundation, believes that Veteran Village is about restoring a sense of belonging and respect for veterans who have given so much for the country.

In Minnesota, more than 170 veterans are currently experiencing homelessness. The completion of Veteran Village is a call to all Minnesotans to invest in a future where every veteran has access to stable housing. The project's success will not only provide a home for those in need but also send a powerful message of gratitude and support to our veterans.
