Refreshed Facility: Enhanced Public Restrooms in Münster
The city of Munster is taking steps to improve public amenities, with a focus on expanding the "Nice Toilet" project. This initiative, which currently involves 33 participating businesses and facilities, aims to address the need for additional and easily accessible facilities.
The administration has been commissioned to prepare the next steps for the implementation of this plan. Priority locations for new public toilet facilities in Munster include the west side of the main station, south park, Coerdeplatz, Wienburgpark, and Aasee-Kugeln.
Six facilities in municipal ownership were refurbished and are now cared for by a cleaning company. However, the previously operated facilities by Wall GmbH were dismantled as a renovation would not have been economical.
In the new concept for public toilets in Munster, ecological aspects, such as water savings, are considered. The proposed facilities will be barrier-free, gender-neutral, and vandalism-proof.
The city intends to further expand the "Nice Toilet" project, with 18 businesses and facilities in the city center and 15 in Hiltrup currently participating. The executing organization potentially responsible for the construction, cleaning, maintenance, and operational management of the planned toilet facilities could be a company specializing in mobile sanitation systems.
The city of Munster, since the beginning of 2024, has been operating public toilets. To support participating providers, the city offers an operating cost subsidy. The estimated annual cost per facility, according to the concept, is approximately 55,000 euros.
