Regional farming association expresses optimism
The Fulda-Hünfeld Regional Farmers' Association has recently assessed the current harvest year as a mixed bag of results. The yields of rye, triticale, and wheat were average to good, while the harvest for field beans in the region showed a poor yield, as reported by Stefan Schneider, the chairman of the association.
Stefan Schneider, a farmer himself, expressed his satisfaction with the overall harvest, but noted that the current financial situation for farmers is less favourable due to lower grain prices compared to last year.
The summer weather, with its alternating spells of sunshine and rain, contributed to good yields for most crops. However, the field beans harvest was below average due to a lack of water in spring and extreme heat. On the other hand, the winter barley harvest was particularly successful, yielding very well.
The qualities of the threshed bread wheat were very good in the Fulda region. The harvest took place at the Karolinenhof in Künzell, where a press conference was held to announce the results.
Looking ahead to the next season, Schneider expressed a desire for changeable weather, with enough rain and sun, to ensure another successful harvest year. The harvest year for the majority of crops has now been concluded, with farmers in the Fulda-Hünfeld region ready to face the challenges and opportunities that the coming season may bring.
