In the vibrant district of Paderborn, the youth fire departments have been making significant strides in 2024. A total of 231 dedicated caregivers provided 996 hours of fire safety training to the ten youth fire departments, fostering a culture of safety and preparedness among the young firefighters.

The hard work and dedication paid off, as all ten youth fire departments passed tests for the Youth Flame badge. This achievement was a testament to the growing competence and camaraderie within the youth fire departments.

Individual accomplishments were also celebrated. Lukas Duscha from Büren received the silver youth fire department badge, while Lea Kesselmeier from Hövelhof succeeded Martin Brandt as the deputy district youth fire chief. Martin Brandt, however, received the gold youth fire department badge, a testament to his long-standing service and dedication.

Jürgen Kersting from Delbrück awarded the bronze youth fire department badge to Leon Goke, André Kipshagen, and Erik Schiermeyer, all from Hövelhof. Nine young people also received the highest award, the performance badge of the youth fire departments.

The youth fire departments in Paderborn were not just about training and awards. They were a living community, as emphasised by District Fire Chief Stephan Reckhaus. The fire department, he said, was more than just a siren. It was a community that nurtured team spirit and technical skills.

The youth fire departments also demonstrated their team spirit in the night march offered by the youth fire department Lichtenau-Atteln in the Altenautal, with 16 youth fire departments participating from the entire district.

Cross-district cooperation was another highlight, with County Commissioner Christoph Rüther praising the efforts. There were 160 new registrations in the youth fire departments, including 30 girls, reflecting the growing interest and participation among young people.

As the year drew to a close, 40 young people moved from the youth fire department to the operational units in the Paderborn district, marking a successful transition for many.

In a related competition in North Rhine-Westphalia, the youth fire brigade from Blomberg secured the state championship title, a testament to their technical skill and team spirit. The highest youth fire brigade award winner in Paderborn for 2024 was not explicitly mentioned in the search results, but the achievements of the Blomberg team certainly set a high bar for the upcoming year.
