Remarkable Half-Century by Retired West Indies Star: Sluggish Beginning Transforms into Spectacular fifty in CPL, Using Just 8 Balls
In a thrilling encounter at Tarouba, the Trinbago Knight Riders emerged victorious against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 12 runs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025.
The match began with Jason Holder, captain of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, winning the toss and electing to field. The decision seemed to pay off initially as the Trinbago Knight Riders struggled to find their footing, losing their third wicket by the 11th over with only 78 runs on the board.
However, the arrival of Kieron Pollard at the crease turned the tide for Trinbago. Pollard, along with captain Nicholas Pooran, steadied the ship and propelled Trinbago to a formidable total of 179-6. Pollard's explosive innings included a 21-ball fifty, eight towering sixes, and a total score of 65 in 29 balls, a performance that left the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots with a challenging target.
The opening stand between Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher added 96 runs for the Patriots in 64 balls, providing a strong foundation for their chase. Fletcher, in particular, shone, scoring 67 in 54 balls, with six fours and two sixes, before being dismissed. Lewis also contributed significantly, scoring 42 in 25 balls, with one four and four sixes.
Despite their promising start, the Patriots struggled to keep up with the required run rate towards the end of their innings. Key contributions from Nathan Edward and Mohammad Amir, who took three and two wickets respectively for the Trinbago Knight Riders, helped restrict the Patriots to a total of 167-6, securing a 12-run victory for Trinbago.
Navin Bidaisee and Waqar Salamkheil, both bowlers for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, put up a valiant effort, but it was not enough to overcome the power hitting of the Trinbago Knight Riders.
This victory strengthens Trinbago Knight Riders' position in the CPL 2025 standings, while the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will look to regroup and bounce back in their next match.
