Removal of Sick and Deceased Trees Persists in Düsseldorf: 166 Trees to Be Uprooted

In the heart of Germany, the city of Düsseldorf has made its tree-related activities transparent with the help of an interactive map. The map, accessible at www.maps.duesseldorf.de, provides a visual representation of new plantings and tree felling across the city.

The map application, known as Düsseldorf Maps, offers a detailed view of the city's greenery under the category Nature and Recreation - Tree Stock - City Tree Concept. Here, one can trace the locations of new street tree plantings, represented by green points, and tree felling, denoted by orange points.

However, it's important to note that not every location where a tree has been felled can be replanted due to various factors such as power lines, traffic facilities, and fire protection aspects.

The city's latest tree planting initiative focuses on small areas such as along streets, on squares, and at oversized intersections. This includes the conversion of brownfields and the removal of sealed surfaces elsewhere in the city to achieve a net positive increase in trees annually as part of the city tree concept.

The map also reveals that the majority of the removed trees were large and old. In 2024, 1,849 sick and no longer traffic-safe trees were removed from streets, parks, and cemeteries in the city.

Despite the city's annual planting of 1,500 new trees, it's clear that this number is not sufficient to compensate for the number of trees being felled.

A screenshot of the map showing the new plantings and tree felling is available for those who wish to explore the city's green spaces in more detail. The green points signify new plantings within the city tree concept, while the orange points represent tree felling.

This transparency in tree management is a significant step towards fostering a greener and healthier city for its residents and visitors alike.
