Renovation of the communal bathing site in Ring-Allee
The Ringallee Swimming Pool in Gießen has undergone significant renovations to make it more accessible for guests with mobility impairments. The pool's sanitary area, now equipped with an array of new features, facilitates independent use, ensuring a more inclusive swimming experience for all.
The renovation project was a collaborative effort between Gießen City Works (SWG) and Samuel Groß, the city's disability officer. According to Mr. Groß, the collaboration was constructive and aimed at creating an inviting and accessible environment for all guests at the Ringallee Swimming Pool.
One of the key features of the renovated sanitary area is the addition of an accessible shower and WC area designed specifically for mobility-impaired individuals. This includes a floor-level shower equipped with a fold-down seat, support grab bars, and faucets with extended levers for easy use. The WC, too, is equipped with a backrest and support grab bars for added comfort and safety.
To further enhance safety, a call system with visual and audible signals has been provided. The sanitary area is also illuminated by automatic lighting, ensuring optimal visibility at all times.
For the convenience of guests using wheelchairs, wheelchair-accessible power outlets have been added, and the pool has been equipped with a pool lift. An under-counter washbasin with support handles and a single-lever mixer has been installed, making washing and grooming easier.
Gießen City Works (SWG) has also made sure to address the needs of guests with hearing impairments. The pool now features visual signs to complement the audible announcements, ensuring that all guests are kept informed.
Uwe Volbrecht, head of Gießen's baths, expressed his delight with the renovations, stating that the goal was to make the Ringallee Swimming Pool a place where everyone feels welcome and included. The renovated sanitary area is now in use, and guests are invited to experience the improved facilities.
While the name of the Disability Officer of the city of Gießen involved in the project remains unavailable, their contributions have undoubtedly made a significant impact on the accessibility of the Ringallee Swimming Pool. The pool now offers an accessible sanitary area, making it easier for guests with mobility impairments to visit and enjoy the swimming facilities.
