In a move aimed at maintaining the safety and smooth flow of traffic, the Regionalverkehrsgesellschaft Ostwestfalen-Lippe (RNL OWL) has announced that repairs on a 3.2-kilometer stretch of the B61 between Gütersloher Straße and Hans-Böckler-Straße will commence on Monday, September 15.

The construction work is divided into two sections. The first section begins at Gütersloher Straße and ends just before the intersection with Stadtring Kattenstroth/Kiebitzstraße. This phase is expected to last four weeks. During this time, traffic heading towards Gütersloh will be detoured via the Gütersloher Straße (L568), Kornstraße (K5), the L791 (Varenseller Straße), further via the Brockstraße (K3) and the Stadtring Kattenstroth to the intersection Bielefelder Straße / Stadtring Kattenstroth (end of detour).

Traffic heading towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the first phase will be directed via Herzebrocker/Gütersloher Straße (L788), Tecklenburger Weg (L927), and the B64 to the junction B64/B61 (Holunderstraße/Bielefelder Straße).

In the second phase, the detour for traffic heading towards Gütersloh will be via the Stadtring Kattenstroth, the Stadtring Sundern, and the Stadtring Nordhorn to the intersection with the B61 (Berliner Straße). The second construction section covers the intersection of B61/Stadtring Kattenstroth/Kiebitzstraße to the Hans-Böckler-Straße. This section is also expected to take four weeks.

The RNL OWL considered it important to inform about the measure early on due to the connection function, the volume of traffic (around 18,000 cars and around 1,150 trucks per day), and the resulting impacts. A construction traffic light will be set up at the intersection of Varenseller Straße (L791)/Kornstraße (K5) for detour traffic. The detour will be set up a week in advance due to the scale of the repairs.

Residents and businesses will be able to reach their properties via the signposted detours. The pedestrian/cycle path will also be closed and repaired in sections during the first phase. A cycle path detour is signposted for both phases.

The press office of the regional branch office of Ostwestfalen-Lippe (RNL OWL) informed companies and residents along the route about the measure in advance. The construction company repairing the 3.2-kilometer stretch of the B61 between Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Gütersloh, starting on September 15, is not explicitly named in the available search results.

The signal programs of the existing traffic lights along the construction site will be adjusted accordingly. It is advisable for motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra travel time during the construction period. The start of construction was initially expected to be in the beginning of August, but at that time it was still in the tendering phase, meaning the construction company had not yet been finally commissioned, and the start of construction date was not confirmed.
