Fire at Mühlenweg Primary School Gymnasium in Hannover Extinguished

The fire that engulfed the gymnasium of the Mühlenweg primary school in Hannover has been successfully extinguished, according to the Hannover fire department. The operation, which required the efforts of 207 fire department and rescue service personnel, concluded at 18:42 on Friday, following a total of 24 hours.

The fire department had to work tirelessly throughout the night and into the late afternoon hours of Friday to locate and extinguish hotspots within the building. The fire caused significant smoke spread, for which warning messages were published via the NINA and KATWARN warning apps.

Large parts of the building had collapsed, making follow-up operations challenging. The Technical Relief Agency (THW) was called in to assist, with five THW personnel supporting the work on site today.

The "fire out" message was given at 19:00 on Friday. The fire department's fire cause investigators estimate the property damage at five million euros. However, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

The deputy head of the Hannover fire department responsible for inquiries is Gregor Fleischmann. In the coming hours, the fire department will regularly inspect the fire site as part of post-fire checks.

The fire department had to ensure general fire protection in the area of the state capital Hannover, in addition to their efforts at the fire site. The fire department's work has been crucial in containing the fire and preventing further damage.

The fire department's efforts were withdrawn during the night, but the warning messages were reinstated as necessary to ensure public safety. The fire department will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of the community and to investigate the cause of the fire.
