The fire that broke out at the Muhleneweg primary school gymnasium in Hannover has been successfully extinguished, fire officials confirmed on Friday at 18:42. The operation, which required the assistance of over 200 firefighters and rescue personnel, came to an end after a gruelling 24 hours.

The Hannover Fire Department, along with the Technical Relief Agency (THW), mobilised a total of 207 deployment forces to combat the blaze. These forces were both on site and ensured general fire protection and assistance in the area of the state capital Hannover. The last deployment forces of the professional fire department left the fire site after reporting "fire out".

Large parts of the building have collapsed due to the fire, and it is expected that there may be odor nuisances in the area in the coming days. For safety reasons, the fire department will conduct regular post-fire checks at the site in the coming hours.

The deputy head of the Hannover Fire Department, Gregor Fleischmann, can be contacted for further information about the event. He confirmed that the warning messages published due to the fire were withdrawn during the night.

At present, no information can yet be given on the cause of the fire. Fire investigators estimate the material damage at five million euros.

The fire department expressed their gratitude to the public for their understanding and cooperation during this challenging time. They also thanked their colleagues from the THW for their valuable support on site today, with five deployment forces from the THW assisting in the work.
