Reporter from Hornbill TV Wounded by Gunfire During Reporting at Laii Village Festival in Manipur, One Suspect apprehended
Dip Saikia, a reporter for Hornbill TV, was shot at during the 'Zinnia Flower Festival' or 'Cherry Blossom Festival' at Laii village on Saturday evening. The shooting took place around 4 pm, and Dip Saikia sustained bullet injuries to his right leg and under his armpit.
A few days before the shooting, Dip Saikia was publicly rebuked by Nagaland's deputy chief minister Y Patton. The rebuke was due to an interview Dip Saikia conducted with former BJP spokesperson M Kikon, who recently quit the party.
HornbillTV has called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the attack. In a statement, the editor of HornbillTV, Dzuthono Mekru, condemned the attack on Dip Saikia, stating that it was an assault on his person and a direct attack on press freedom.
The suspect, identified as John Doe, was reportedly apprehended by the villagers and later arrested by the police. The suspect is currently being questioned by authorities.
HornbillTV's statement went on to express concern for Dip Saikia's condition and wished him a speedy recovery. No new information about Dip Saikia's current condition was available at the time of filing this report.
