News Article: Traffic Accident in Elmshorn Leaves Two Passengers Injured

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 14:49 hrs, the Elmshorn Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a traffic accident on Wittenberger Straße (junction Sibirien) in Elmshorn.

According to the Kreisfeuerwehrverband Pinneberg, transmitted via news aktuell, the incident involved an Opel Astra carrying two male passengers. The vehicle left the road at the Sibirien junction, overran a traffic island, and collided with the traffic light system.

Both passengers were trapped inside the vehicle as a result of the impact. The driver and the passenger were unable to leave the car. The driver was rescued first, followed by the passenger, about half an hour after the alarm was raised, through the rear hatch.

The Rettungsdienst RKiSH was deployed with 6 vehicles, including 2 RTW and 1 NEF, to provide medical assistance. The police were deployed with 4 vehicles to manage the scene. In addition to the fire department, emergency services, and police, the Elmshorn City Works and the Elmshorn THW were also deployed for securing the scene.

The crashed Opel Astra's oil tank was torn open at the traffic island, causing an extensive spillage of operating fluids. The damaged traffic light system was secured using a turntable ladder.

Both passengers were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
