Research Findings Indicate that Different Life Phases Shape Perspectives and Actions
In a comprehensive data analysis conducted by Culture Amp, over 1.2 million users from more than 4,000 companies were analysed in 2024. The results, reported by the online portal Haufe, provide valuable insights into the work behaviour of different generations, specifically Generation Z and Millennials.
Arne Sjöström, Regional Director at Culture Amp, highlights that generational stereotypes are prevalent in the workplace. However, the data does not indicate a "misdirected" youth, as both Generation Z employees and young Millennials in 2015 showed the highest career optimism and the lowest intention to stay.
Interestingly, the company that conducted the study, Future Workplace, found that both generations value flexibility, digital technology integration, and meaningful work. However, stress is a major obstacle for performance, and companies must prioritise digital communication and supportive leadership to retain them effectively.
For comparison, Culture Amp compared data from Generation Millennials in 2024 with data from 2015. The earlier analysis, conducted on 33,258 users from 187 companies, showed that the older the generation, the less positive their view of leadership. Young Millennials in 2015 expressed the most positive views about management.
However, the latest data indicates a shift, with Generation Z employees rating their supervisors more positively than any other age group in a company. This suggests that generational differences in the workplace reflect different life phases and career stages rather than a deep-seated generational conflict.

The results of this study provide a fresh perspective on understanding and managing generational differences in the workplace, emphasising the importance of flexible work arrangements, digital technology integration, and supportive leadership for retaining and motivating employees across generations.
