British Customs Officer and Transport Enthusiast Among Elevador da Glória Accident Victims

Andrew David Kenneth Young, a 82-year-old Welsh national, was one of the 16 fatalities in the tragic elevator accident in Lisbon last week. The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, also claimed the lives of individuals from various nations, including five Portuguese, two South Koreans, two Canadians, one Swiss, one Ukrainian, one American, and one French national.

Young, who lived in Holyhead, Wales, had a long career as a customs officer. However, the specific pastime that brought him joy was not specified. According to his family, his retirement years were spent visiting historic railways and tram lines around the world, a testament to his love for transport.

The British newspaper The Guardian reported on Young's life and career, highlighting his dedication to his work and his passion for transport. The Guardian also quoted Young's family, who shared that his final moments were spent in a pastime that brought him immense joy.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing, with the details of each victim's final moments yet to be fully understood. The investigator examining the occupation of one of the victims, Kayleigh Smith, who died at age 36 in the accident, is a detective from the British police.

Three other British nationals were also among the victims: Smith, 36, and Will Nelson, 44. The Welsh police reported that Young's nationality was Welsh, adding to the diverse group of victims.

Young's love for transport was evident in his career and his retirement pastime. His loss will be deeply felt by his family and friends, as well as by those who knew him through his work.
