Resort in Reno, Nevada, recovers to 90% capacity following floods
The J Resort, a downtown Reno resort, experienced a significant incident on Sunday, July 27, 2025, when a storm caused heavy rain and hail. The hail and rainwater overloaded the storm drain pipe at the resort, leading to a pipe break and subsequent flooding on the casino floor[1][2][4].
The flooding affected various areas of the gaming floor, including slot machines and kiosks, as well as other parts of the resort[1][2]. In response, Jacobs Entertainment, the operator of the J Resort, took immediate action to restore operations.
By Wednesday, 90% of casino operations were reported to be back online[1]. Jonathan Boulware, Vice President of Nevada operations for Jacobs Entertainment, acknowledged the severity of the incident but indicated that recovery efforts were progressing well[1].
During the flooding, guests were temporarily evacuated for safety, and cleanup and repairs were initiated to resume normal casino activities[2][3]. It's worth noting that the hail played a role in the water gushing down from light fixtures and other openings in the ceiling at the resort[1][2].
However, the hail and heavy rainwater are not explicitly mentioned as factors in the 90% of casino operations being back online as of Wednesday[1]. Despite the setback, it appears that The J Resort is making strides towards a full recovery.

The flooding from the July 27 storm also affected the casino games and casino-culture at The J Resort in Las Vegas-styled downtown Reno, disrupting gambling activities. Interestingly, despite the hail and heavy rainwater causing damage within the resort, only 90% of the casino operations were back online by Wednesday, suggesting that some casino-and-gambling areas may still be under repair.
