In a flurry of activity leading up to the Memorial Day weekend, the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 announced a series of significant contract agreements with prominent Nevada employers.
On Wednesday, the union reached a three-year contract deal with the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, covering almost 2,500 non-gaming employees. Notably, this agreement boasts some of the largest wage increases in the union's 90-year history. The Cosmopolitan, operated by MGM Resorts International, will likely see these arrangements once ratified by the workers.
The following day, the union announced a five-year deal with HMS Host workers at Harry Reid International Airport, covering approximately 1,100 food service personnel. The significance of this agreement lies in the increased stability it offers to airport hospitality workers.
By Friday, the union had also inked a three-year contract with Resorts World Las Vegas, covering nearly 2,000 hospitality workers. This agreement also includes unprecedented wage increases and comprehensive contract language securing top health care benefits, pension guarantees, union protections regarding ownership changes, and enhanced workplace safety and workload reductions. Additionally, Resorts World's employees will be entitled to enhanced protections concerning sexual harassment, technology use, and immigration-related issues, while demanding daily room cleaning for guest room attendants.
