Restaurant in south Windsor rammed by car; no harm sustained by anyone

In an unexpected turn of events, a car crashed into RoseCity Grill restaurant in South Windsor on Sunday evening around 7:30 p.m. The incident occurred on Howard Avenue, near Kenilworth Drive.

The owner of the restaurant, Mohamad Mocheimech, arrived at the scene to find the back end of a vehicle inside the restaurant. The crash took out eight panes of glass, aluminum framework, and part of the dining area.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, but it was a close call as a family with two children had just left the spot where a bench was located. An employee of the restaurant stepped away from the counter moments before the impact. If she had been out front wiping the benchtop at the time of the crash, she could have been hurt.

The driver of the car that crashed into RoseCity Grill was an older woman. According to the restaurant owner, she told him that her brakes weren't working when she pulled into the plaza. The police have stated that the crash was unintentional and no charges are being laid at this time.

The crash is another setback for RoseCity Grill, which opened in June 2023 and has been struggling with ongoing construction along Howard Avenue. The ongoing construction has caused a drop in sales for the restaurant, with sales being about 40 per cent of what they used to be. Despite the temporary closure of the dining room, RoseCity Grill remains open for takeout and delivery orders.

The damages to the restaurant could amount to around $15,000. Last year, RoseCity Grill experienced a break-in, and the replacement of one piece of glass cost $4,000. The restaurant is now temporarily closed for repairs, adding to the ongoing challenges it has been facing.

Despite the difficulties, Mocheimech is grateful that his family was delayed at the park with the kids and did not witness the crash. He is hoping for a swift recovery and a return to normal operations soon. The police continue to investigate the incident.
