Resumed Direct Airlifts Between India and China

In a significant development, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Chinese Tianjin on August 31 saw the announcement of the resumption of direct air communication between India and China after a five-year hiatus. This landmark decision is expected to foster stronger ties between the two nations.

The recent personal representative of China who visited India was the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During his official visit, key achievements included the resumption of direct flights and the easing of visa issuance for businesspeople, tourists, and media representatives. However, it's important to note that Wang Yi's visit was not related to the SCO summit or the border disputes between China and India.

The resumption of flights comes after a period of strained relations between Beijing and New Delhi, which deteriorated following deadly clashes on the border between Chinese and Indian troops in 2020. The aim now is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi's visit to China for the SCO summit marked his first visit to China in seven years. During their meetings, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that they would work towards resolving border disputes.

Interestingly, the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods were related to India's purchase of oil from Russia. Wang Yi's visit to New Delhi earlier in August was not directly linked to these tariffs or the border disputes.

It's worth noting that the exact dates for the resumption of flights between India and China are not yet known. The visit by Wang Yi was not related to the resumption of direct air communication between the two countries either.

The SCO summit is an international organization that focuses on mutual cooperation and collective security. Member states include China, India, Russia, and several Central Asian countries.

This renewed diplomatic effort between China and India is a positive step towards improving relations and strengthening cooperation between the two nations. As more details emerge, we can expect to see further developments in this promising direction.
