National Retail Federation and Retail & Hospitality Information Sharing and Analysis Center Form Cybersecurity Partnership

The National Retail Federation (NRF) and the Retail & Hospitality Information Sharing and Analysis Center (RH-ISAC) have announced a significant partnership to enhance the security of retail operations, e-commerce, supply chain, and other enterprise activities.

This collaboration comes in response to increased threat activity against the retail sector, due to an accelerated consumer shift to omnichannel purchasing. The partnership is timely, given the recovery of the economy from multiple years of global pandemic impact.

The partnership aims to protect customer data in the retail sector from malicious cyberattacks. Suzie Squier, president of RH-ISAC, stated that the organization will bring threat intelligence from its member companies to the collaboration.

The partnership will involve the sharing of threat intelligence, planning virtual threat exercises, coordinating with federal regulators, and collaborating on cybersecurity research. NRF will phase out its existing threat sharing portal, the NRF Cyber Risk Exchange.

The collaboration between NRF and RH-ISAC will not be limited to large-sized retailers, as they already have a significant number of members from this sector. The NRF and RH-ISAC already have a substantial number of members, including medium to large-sized retailers.

The November report from Veracode revealed that three-quarters of retail and hospitality applications have security vulnerabilities. One in five of the identified vulnerabilities were considered high severity.

The partnership is intended to ensure seamless security between various operations of a retail enterprise, including store operations, e-commerce, supply chain, etc. The collaboration between NRF and RH-ISAC will continue to focus on combating malicious cyberattacks and protecting customer data in the retail industry.
