Revived BMW Vision CE: The iconic C1 model is regenerated
BMW is set to present a new electric scooter concept at IAA Mobility from 9-14 September – the BMW Vision CE. This innovative vehicle is a reinterpretation of the safety cell principle of the legendary BMW C1 from the 2000s.
Unlike the C1, the BMW Vision CE does not have a fairing for the protective space or a passenger seat outside of it. Instead, it features an open safety cell made of two tubular elements, similar to the C1, designed to keep the driver in a protective space in case of a fall.
The BMW Vision CE appears stretched and muscular, reminiscent of the CE 04, which has been part of BMW Motorrad's programme since 2022. However, it has some detail modifications that give it a more futuristic and robust appearance.
The drive of the BMW Vision CE is likely to use the technology of the CE 04. This includes a 15 kW/20 PS continuous and 31 kW/42 PS peak power electric motor. The scooter can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and has a range of up to 130 kilometers, thanks to its 9 kWh battery capacity.
Markus Flasch, BMW Motorrad's CEO, has made earlier statements and patent applications that suggest a comeback of the C1 with electric drive is quite likely. Whether the BMW Vision CE will lead to a C1 reboot remains uncertain.
One notable difference between the BMW Vision CE and the CE 04 is the seat construction. The Vision CE features a single seat with backrest, seat belt system, and headrest, as opposed to the CE 04's dual seat.
The BMW Vision CE also includes a balancing function that stabilizes the vehicle when stationary, ensuring a smooth and safe ride. This feature, along with its open safety cell, makes the BMW Vision CE an exciting development in the world of electric scooters.
