Road accident involving a crane on Rama II road results in 3 individuals sustaining injuries
A construction crane collapsed on Rama II Road at approximately 2am on Sunday, causing significant traffic disruption and injuring several individuals.
The incident occurred at kilometre marker 26+500, inbound towards Bangkok, near Central Mahachai in Muang district. One crane lost balance and overturned, causing a large steel beam to crash onto a passing pick-up truck.
The driver and passenger of the crushed pick-up truck sustained minor injuries. Both were immediately taken to Mahachai Hospital for treatment, along with the crane operator who was trapped inside the cabin and was rescued by emergency services. The other occupant was transported to Samut Sakhon Hospital for further care.
Eyewitnesses reported that two cranes were working in tandem to lift the steel beam. However, the collapse of the crane caused the beam to strike a high-voltage power pole. Officials confirmed that the crane boom has since been removed.
Immediate intervention by contractors and highway officials was taken to restore order and minimize further disruption. Police from Mueang Samut Sakhon station redirected vehicles to alternative lanes while the main carriageway remained closed for crane recovery operations.
The company responsible for the construction of the project where the crane collapsed is TCC Construction, with Supalai as the developer. Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaiwong visited the crash site and has assured the public that a full reopening of the road is expected shortly.
By Sunday morning, authorities had cleared obstructions on the parallel road, allowing traffic to resume. Despite the incident, it is hoped that the construction project will continue safely and efficiently.
