Roadblocks at the sandy coastal region, referred to as Kerwa
The city of Bamberg has announced several road closures and parking restrictions in preparation for the Sand Kirchweih event, scheduled from August 19 to August 25, 2025. The most significant impact will be felt on August 24, 2025, when the Fischerstechen takes place.
During this period, the areas with the letter codes "J" and "D" will be under temporary parking restrictions. Affected residents can park in the adjacent license areas of Holzmarkt/Weide, Jakobsberg, and Altstadt using their parking permits. Replacement license plate parking spaces will also be provided at "Am Leinritt" with the Building Authority and in Lower Sand Street on August 24, 2025.
Many resident parking spaces in the Kirchweih area will not be available on August 24, 2025. This is due to the Fischerstechen event, which is part of the Sandkerwa festivities organised by the Bamberger Sandkerwa Veranstaltungs GmbH, with managing directors Jürgen Wirth and Dominik Nakic.
The road closures and detour will affect all road users. The detour for the closed connection will be via the Regensburger Ring. The connection between Schweinfurter Street, Lower Sand Street, Markus Bridge, and Markus Street will be closed daily from 6 PM from August 21 to August 25, 2025.
Additionally, road closures will occur on Lower and Upper Sand Street, Elisabethen Street, Karolinen Street, Schranne, and Markusplatz from August 19 to August 25, 2025. Lange Street will be closed on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from approximately 1 PM.
Driving through these areas will be largely impossible during this period. Road users are advised to plan their routes accordingly and to follow the signs for the detour via the Regensburger Ring.
Replacement parking spaces will also be available in Steinert Street, Kapuziner Street, Pfeufer Street, and at Schiffbauplatz on August 24, 2025.
The Sand Kirchweih and Fischerstechen are much-anticipated events in Bamberg, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the festivities while being mindful of the road closures and parking restrictions.
