Roadway restrictions implemented for the day of the public commemoration ceremony

In a bid to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment, the city centre will undergo extensive street closures on September 14, 2025. The closures are designed to facilitate easy navigation for all, including those with strollers, wheelchair users, and cyclists.

The closures will commence on September 10, 2025, with Schuhgasse, Sorge, Rittergasse, and Johannisstraße being the first to experience traffic disruptions. Kleine Kirchstraße and Schloßstraße will join the list of affected streets on the same day.

From September 10 onwards, through traffic will be prohibited on these streets. The closures will extend to include Schloßstraße at the height of Rudolf-Diener-Straße towards the city centre, Große Kirchstraße at the corner of Greizer Straße/Steinweg towards the market, Burgstraße at the height of Rutheneum, and the access road towards the market from the Museumsplatz.

The Market will also be affected by these traffic closures on September 14. In addition, Breitscheidstraße from the corner of De-Smit-Straße to the Museumsplatz and Reichsstraße between the corner of Stadtgraben and the Museumsplatz will be closed on the same day.

The closures will continue from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on September 14, with access to the closed area being strictly prohibited, even for exceptions. This includes the Sorge west of Humboldtstraße towards Schloßstraße, Rittergasse at the corner of Schuhgasse, and Schuhgasse west of Rittergasse towards the market.

The city’s Department of Public Works will be responsible for the street sanding operations in September 2025. It is advised for residents and visitors to plan their routes accordingly and anticipate delays due to these closures.

We encourage everyone to embrace these changes and enjoy the pedestrian-friendly atmosphere on September 14, 2025. For more information, please visit the city's official website or contact the Department of Public Works.
