Robin Wood-Floss is holding a climate justice rally in Mainz today

The Robin Wood Floß, a three-meter wide and ten-meter long raft built from wooden trunks, has set sail on a two-week action tour along the Rhine. The tour, initiated by the Robin Wood e.V. organisation, aims to promote climate justice and provide new momentum for the climate movement.

Vitus Heller, a ROBIN WOOD activist, is among those aboard the Floß. He asserts that the ultra-rich have not adequately contributed to mitigating the climate damage they cause, as they are particularly wasteful of the planet's resources. Heller's participation in the tour is a means to make his protest public and find new allies for climate solidarity.

Marit Schneider, another ROBIN WOOD activist, emphasises the importance of being visible and standing together against right-wing deniers of the human-made climate crisis. Schneider and Heller, along with the rest of the Floß crew, are present at the City Feel Festival in Mainz, offering a workshop on industrial disarmament with author Bruno Kern.

The Floß is currently moored at Steiger A1 on the Mainz Rhine embankment and will be at the Malakoff terraces tomorrow. On Sunday, the Floß will continue its journey to Bingen, where a CleanUp action on the Rhine embankment will commence at 2:00 PM.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague has ruled for the first time that states have a duty to combat global warming, and a violation of this could constitute a breach of international law. The ICJ also demands more action from states and states that environmental protection is a human right, and affected countries have a claim to compensation.

According to an Oxfam study, the richest ten percent of the world's population is responsible for half of the CO2 emissions, while the poorer half is only responsible for eight percent. In Germany, there were approximately 1.6 million millionaires and 130 billionaires in 2024, making it the country with the most millionaires in any European country.

ROBIN WOOD demands heavier wealth taxation, the abolition of extreme wealth, enforcement of the polluter pays principle, and social compensation in climate policy with climate money and further measures. The organisation invites everyone to discuss climate issues and connect, even beyond the environmental movement, as climate protection is only possible in conjunction with social justice.

Open Floß! is taking place in Mainz from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday. The tour concludes in Düsseldorf, but the planned departure location after two weeks is not explicitly stated in the available search results. Heller expresses concern over the increasing intensity and frequency of forest fires, droughts, and floods, linking them to human-induced climate change.

ROBIN WOOD calls for everyone to join them in their fight for climate justice and a sustainable future.
