Roglic joins Pogacar at World Championships in Rwanda
Slovenia's top cyclists, Primoz Roglic and Tadej Pogacar, are gearing up for the Road World Championships in Rwanda this month. Both riders will be part of the Slovenian team, with Pogacar defending his title from last year.
Roglic, a four-time Vuelta a Espana champion, has chosen to focus on the road race event in Rwanda, opting out of the time trial. He last raced at Clásica San Sebastián at the start of August, having completed both the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France this year. Meanwhile, Pogacar aims to secure a second title, having already clinched victory at the 2020 Road World Championships.
The full team announcements for the Road World Championships are expected to be made in the coming weeks. Apart from Roglic and Pogacar, other potential Slovenian riders include Matej Mohoric, Jan Tratnik, Luka Mezgec, Domen Novak, and Gal Glivar. The Slovenian team may also field two riders in the elite time trial event.
Slovenia can assemble a team of eight riders for the Road World Championships, but the full lineup is yet to be confirmed. Remco Evenepoel is another member of the Slovenian team for the event.
Notably, several big names have decided to skip the Road World Championships in Rwanda, including Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, and Jonas Vingegaard.
Urška Žigart is likely to spearhead the Slovenian women's road race team for the Road World Championships. More details about the third Slovenian rider participating alongside Roglic and Pogacar at the 2025 Road World Championships in Rwanda are yet to be announced.
