Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj, Romania's leading regional airport, has made a significant stride in enhancing passenger convenience and safety. As of September 3, the airport will lift restrictions on the volume of liquids, aerosols, and gels in hand luggage.

The change was made possible through the installation of new-generation security equipment, purchased in 2024 with European funding as part of the airport's terminal expansion project. The systems at the Avram Iancu International Airport were updated to comply with European Commission standards for liquid explosives detection.

Alin Tișe, president of the Cluj County Council, expressed his delight, stating that the lifting of restrictions on the amount of liquids that can be carried on board aircraft is a measure long awaited by passengers. Passengers at the airport can now carry individual containers of up to two liters in their cabin baggage, eliminating the long-standing rule limiting containers to 100 milliliters.

David Ciceo, the general director of Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj, highlighted that the new security measures will reduce processing time at security checks, offering a smoother and more efficient travel experience for passengers.

The new security scanners were installed in 2020 and updated again in 2023. The installation and updates were carried out in cooperation with Romania's Anti-Terrorist Brigade of the SRI (Romanian Intelligence Service) and the equipment manufacturer.

The Avram Iancu International Airport's expansion and updated security measures demonstrate that it remains a model of best practices in terms of infrastructure development, passenger safety, and security. The move to allow larger volumes of liquids in hand luggage also underscores the airport's commitment to offering more facilities and greater comfort to passengers.

Traffic at Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj is expected to reach 3.4 million in 2025, as the airport continues to expand its infrastructure and services. With these improvements, the airport is poised to handle the increasing number of passengers efficiently and comfortably.

The airport's compliance with European Commission standards for liquid explosives detection is a testament to its commitment to ensuring the highest level of security for its passengers. The Avram Iancu International Airport in Cluj-Napoca continues to set the bar for airports in Romania, demonstrating that it remains a leader in the field of airport infrastructure and safety.
