Ronald Chavez emerges victorious in the quarterfinals of the World Cup against Makan Traoré

In the ongoing Olympic boxing championships held in Liverpool, England, some exciting matches have taken place. One of the most notable was the clash between Torekhan Sabyrkhan from Kazakhstan and Makan Traoré in the men's 70 kg category.

Sabyrkhan, the 2024 youth world champion, secured a spot guaranteed to earn a medal after his victory over Traoré. The quarterfinals match between these two boxers is scheduled for Wednesday.

Traoré had a successful start, winning the first round against Ronald Chavez with both men engaging little. The scorecard reflected this, with Traoré winning 30-27 on all five judges' cards.

In the second round, however, it was Sabyrkhan who imposed close combat, winning on four judges' cards. The third round saw Traoré being more active, but Sabyrkhan maintained his distance, ensuring another win on the judges' cards.

Another French boxer, Soheb Bouafia (-90 kg), faced Isaias Santos Ribeiro in the round of 16. Despite starting strong, winning the first round on three of the five judges' cards, Bouafia lost the second round unanimously, resulting in a 5-0 defeat.

Lounes Hamraoui (-60 kg) also faced Shunsuke Kitamoto in the same round. Despite being hit cleanly several times in the face in the first round, Hamraoui managed to win on three of the five judges' cards. However, Kitamoto turned the tables in the second round, winning unanimously, and the third round followed suit, ending the competition for Hamraoui with a score of 5-0 (27-30 and four times 28-29).

Interestingly, Zeinulinov, who defeated Grau in the round of 16, had previously beaten Grau in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in July. Grau tried to re-establish his distance in the third round, but Zeinulinov still won unanimously.

Unfortunately, both Lounes Hamraoui and Hugo Grau have been eliminated from the Olympic boxing championships. It's a tough blow for the French team, but the competition continues with the quarterfinals approaching.
