Rostock Police Inspectorate commends five individuals for exceptional acts of civilian bravery
In the heart of Rostock, Germany, a touching ceremony took place on an unspecified date, where Achim Segebarth, head of the Rostock Police Inspectorate, honoured five individuals for their acts of bravery. These courageous interventions ranged from preventing bike theft, saving a child from drowning, to freeing an injured person from under a car.
The ceremony began with the recognition of Toby Peters, a 15-year-old student from Rostock-Lichtenhagen. On August 27, 2024, Toby demonstrated civil courage by reporting a man tampering with an e-bike in Rostock-Lichtenhagen. His quick actions led to the apprehension of a suspected e-bike thief, earning him praise from the Rostock Police Inspectorate.
Another honouree was Anna Soiko, a 25-year-old visitor from Würzburg. On May 11, 2024, a five-year-old autistic boy named Ahmed went missing in Lütten Klein Fischerdorf, Rostock. Anna's quick actions saved Ahmed from drowning in a pond in Fischerdorf. She found the boy alone at the edge of the pond and alerted the authorities, ensuring Ahmed's safe return.
The combined strength of several people was necessary to free Darion Heller, a 17-year-old, from under a car. On December 10, 2024, a traffic accident occurred in Rostocker Südstadt, involving Darion and a Ford Focus. Anne Posselt (40), Kerstin Alter (38), and Sophie Gerlach, an educator, joined forces to lift the car, freeing Darion. Darion lost consciousness during the accident but was provided medical care by the first responders. Fortunately, Darion has largely overcome the consequences of the accident, as reported at the award ceremony.
Yvonn Heller, Darion's mother, attended the ceremony to express her gratitude for the first responders' actions. The award ceremony provided an opportunity for the awardees and guests to explore the tasks of the Rostock Police Inspectorate, shedding light on the importance of community involvement in maintaining safety and order.
