Roughly a third of individuals express concern about potential job displacement due to artificial intelligence advancements.
In recent months, the world of artificial intelligence (AI) has witnessed significant strides, with capabilities expanding far beyond what was previously thought possible. This progress has been evident since the release of ChatGPT by the US company Open AI, with numerous new models being presented by various companies and developers.
According to a survey conducted in mid-August, 34% of Germans expressed concern about losing their jobs due to the use of artificial intelligence. However, it's important to note that the majority, 62%, were not concerned. The survey, which involved 2,175 eligible voters, did not reveal significant differences in concern about job loss due to AI between supporters of different parties in the Bundestag.
The advancements in AI are not limited to text processing. AI models are now capable of handling more tasks, including image, audio, video, and other format processing. This has led to new discussions and concerns about security and data protection, particularly in Europe.
A study by the Ifo Institute published in June revealed that around 27% of companies in Germany expect AI to lead to job cuts in the next five years. Approximately 5% anticipate additional jobs from AI, while about two-thirds foresee no change.
Interestingly, the survey found that Germans who live in cities and those with lower levels of education are more likely to fear that their work could be done by AI in the future. On the other hand, voters of the Greens and the FDP expressed concern about job loss due to AI less frequently than the average.
The advancements in AI are leading to new discussions on security and data protection in Europe. As AI models become more integrated into our daily lives, it's crucial that these issues are addressed to ensure the protection of personal data and maintain the security of AI systems.
Since November 2022, AI models have made enormous progress, with improvements in logic, efficiency, scalability, and the simultaneous processing of various formats. These advancements are set to continue, shaping the future of AI and its impact on the job market and data protection.
