Strava Expands its Reach with the Acquisition of Runna

In a significant move, fitness technology giant Strava has announced the acquisition of Runna. This partnership is set to bring a host of new features and expanded access to millions of runners worldwide.

Runna, a personalized training companion, has been offering its services in English-speaking markets. However, with Strava's backing, it is now moving to scale up its offer in the fitness tech space. The app's elements have been designed to localize, including language, imagery, and content, making it available in seven new languages: French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, and Japanese.

The new multi-language experience on Runna was made possible with Strava's localization expertise. Runna's Co-founder and CEO, Dom Maskell, described the update as a significant moment for the company.

Runna's move beyond English-speaking markets unlocks access to millions of new runners worldwide. The company's mission to make running more inclusive and accessible is reflected in the new features and partnerships.

One of Runna's standout features, Races by Runna, was launched earlier this year. With this partnership, the feature will be extended to local communities worldwide. Additionally, partnerships with Lululemon, Maurten, and Parkrun will be expanded to these communities as well.

Strava has also made improvements to its Apple Watch recording experience. The company has not announced any updates about a newsletter for smarter living, but a free trial of Runna is available to new users.

This is Strava's most ambitious step towards international expansion to date. With this partnership, Strava is expanding its reach and delivering features for runners worldwide. The acquisition of Runna is a testament to Strava's commitment to providing the best possible experience for runners everywhere.
