Russian assault in eastern Ukraine leaves over 20 casualties, as per Zelensky's statement - Russian assault in eastern Ukraine results in over 20 fatalities, as reported by Zelensky

In an Eastern Ukrainian region, a strike occurred without specific details about its location or the military action involved. The incident resulted in 21 deaths and 21 injuries, according to Vadym Filashkin, the Governor of the affected region.

The Governor described the strikes as "sheer terrorism." President Volodymyr Zelensky also condemned the attack, stating that it occurred while residents were due to receive their pensions. He urged a response from Ukraine's allies and emphasised that the Russian attacks cannot go unanswered by the international community.

The village of Yakovlevka, located less than ten kilometers from the front line in eastern Ukraine, is one of the areas affected by the strike. Before the Russian invasion in February 2022, around 1,800 people lived in the village. However, no specific information is available about the current status of Yakovlevka or whether it is within the region of Donetsk, which Moscow claims.

Russian forces are reported to have concentrated 100,000 soldiers on a crucial section of the front line in eastern Ukraine. President Zelensky called for a response from Ukraine's allies to the strike, but no further information about the nature of the strike or the involved parties is provided.

Rescue services, doctors, police, and local authorities are currently on the scene of the strike, working to assist the injured and recover the dead. The situation remains fluid, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
