Russian Consulate in Sydney breached as car crashes through gate.

In the heart of Sydney, an unusual incident unfolded early this morning. A 39-year-old man drove a car onto the grounds of the Russian consulate, causing a stir among staff and passers-by.

According to eyewitness accounts, the man rammed the gates of the consulate, with a police officer reportedly asking the driver to exit the vehicle. However, the car continued to move, heading towards the consulate building. The incident occurred around 8 am (1:00 GMT).

Footage obtained from the scene shows a white SUV near the Russian flag, with open doors and shattered front windows. The car appeared to have collided with the consulate's gates, causing significant damage.

The New South Wales Police, who were quickly on the scene, arrested the man at the scene. A 24-year-old constable suffered a hand injury during the incident. The constable received immediate medical treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.

A 100-meter zone around the consulate was cordoned off, with Fullerton Street also closed off by the police. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

The man was taken to a police station for questioning. The NSW Ambulance confirmed that the man had a cut on his hand, but the cause of the injury is unclear.

This incident is not the first time the Russian consulate in Sydney has been the focus of concern. In February last year, an unknown person threw a suspicious bag onto the consulate's territory. The contents of the bag were examined by experts, who determined that it was not a threat, according to police in NSW.

As the investigation into today's incident continues, the Russian consulate and the New South Wales Police are working together to ensure the safety and security of the consulate and its staff. The public is advised to avoid the area and follow updates from the authorities.
