Russian forces may be planning a fresh attack on Kiev, according to warnings issued by the city's authorities.
Russian military operations in Ukraine have continued to make headlines, with the Donetsk region remaining a priority for Moscow's efforts. According to Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, the war of conquest is running successfully, with the Russian military gaining 600-700 square kilometers per month compared to 300-400 square kilometers earlier in the year.
Belousov expressed satisfaction with the 35 massive air strikes against 146 strategically important enemy objects this year, stating that these strikes have significantly weakened Ukraine's military infrastructure. However, his claims of the Ukrainian military losing 340,000 soldiers this year cannot be independently verified, and he did not provide details on Russia's own losses.
Russian troops have made significant gains in the southern Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, with reports of a kilometer-long Russian breakthrough in Saporizhzhia. Despite these advances, defenders managed to isolate parts of the Russian troops with counterattacks, preventing a complete takeover.
Heavy explosions were reported in Saporizhzhia, resulting in at least one death and 22 injuries, and causing residential buildings to catch fire. Attacks with kamikaze drones equipped with explosives were also reported in Kyiv and other cities.
Negotiations between the warring parties have resumed, but there has been no breakthrough yet. Kyiv accuses Moscow of dragging out negotiations to force a military decision.
In response to the ongoing conflict, the USA has agreed to supply several Patriot air defense systems and other weapons to NATO partner Denmark, which aims to support Ukraine in its defensive struggle. Germany and Norway have already agreed to supply Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, with Germany being the largest supplier by having delivered five batteries and Norway co-financing two new systems. The Netherlands is also purchasing Patriots to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.
The EU's foreign ministers will meet in Copenhagen this Saturday to discuss further handling of the war in Ukraine and potential additional sanctions against Russia.
Notably, Russia has demanded that Kyiv cede the Donetsk region as a condition for freezing the frontline elsewhere, although this is not officially confirmed. However, the Russian military has so far failed to capture Pokrovsk, a strategically important transport hub in the Donetsk region, which remains a focus for Russian troops planning another major offensive.
The conflict in Ukraine continues to evolve, and the international community is closely monitoring the situation and providing support to Ukraine in its defensive struggle.
