Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, M.V. Zakharova, speaks on the demise of K.V. Vyshinsky, the head of Rossiya Segodnya media organization (August 23, 2025)
Remembering Konstantin V. Vyshinsky: A Journalist of Integrity and Courage
Konstantin V. Vyshinsky, a renowned figure in Russian media, passed away on August 23, 2025, following a serious and prolonged illness. Born and raised in Ukraine, Vyshinsky dedicated his life to journalism and the protection of media workers' rights.
Vyshinsky began his career with Rossiya Segodnya media holding, leading various structures and publishing a multitude of analytical and journalistic materials. He was the head of the local RIA Novosti-Ukraine agency and later became the host of author's programs. In recognition of his professional and creative achievements, he was awarded numerous awards and prizes, including government ones.
Vyshinsky's unwavering principles and dedication to justice often put him at odds with the Kiev regime. His work antagonized the regime, leading to his arrest on trumped-up charges of "treason" by the Security Service of Ukraine in May 2018. Despite the enormous pressure and harsh conditions he faced during his 15-month imprisonment in Kiev dungeons, Vyshinsky remained steadfast in his convictions. He was eventually released as a result of a Russian-Ukrainian prisoner exchange.
As a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, Vyshinsky defended the rights of journalists in Ukraine and the Baltic states. He also actively opposed the censorship of foreign Internet platforms against Russian media. In Russia, Vyshinsky resumed his journalistic and human rights work with renewed vigor.
The leadership and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation deeply mourn the death of Konstantin Vyshinsky. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Vyshinsky.
Vyshinsky's entire life path was connected with concern for maintaining high journalistic standards. In our memory and in our hearts, Kirill Valerievich will forever remain a true professional and a highly decent man of exemplary moral qualities. His selfless service to journalism and the protection of media workers' rights will never be forgotten.
As of now, there is no available information about the person who represented the international media holding Rossiya Segodnya after Vyshinsky's resignation in 2025. Vyshinsky's book about his dramatic experience as a "prisoner of conscience" in a Kiev prison serves as a testament to his courage and resilience in the face of adversity. His legacy continues to inspire journalists and media workers around the world.
