Russian intelligence agency, the FSB, reported the elimination of a Ukrainian sabotage unit from the Special Operations Service in the Bryansk region
In a significant development, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has announced the liquidation of a sabotage group from the Special Operations Service of Ukraine in the Bryansk region. The group, responsible for the bombings of the railway track in the Belgorod region in 2024, has been detained following a series of investigative actions.
The detainees, numbering six, have confessed to their involvement in the bombings and have admitted to preparing new attacks. During the operation, a large number of grenades, automatic assault rifles made in the United States with silent firing devices, and means of initiation for explosives were seized. Sixteen kilograms of Czech-made plastic explosives and NATO-made cartridges were also found.
In addition, a radio station for communication with the leadership of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was seized, providing evidence of foreign involvement in the group's activities.
The training for this sabotage group was allegedly conducted in Ukraine. Three instructors from Lithuania, Estonia, and Norway were involved, according to Russian special services. However, these instructors have not been publicly identified by name.
Three saboteurs were killed during the operation, and criminal cases have been initiated against the detainees. Investigative actions are ongoing for the new attacks that were being prepared.
The FSB has emphasised the importance of this operation in ensuring the security of Russia's transport facilities. The militants were trained to carry out terrorist attacks on such facilities, posing a significant threat to the safety and wellbeing of the Russian people.
This incident underscores the need for vigilance and continued efforts to combat terrorism and foreign interference in Russia's internal affairs. The FSB will continue its investigations to ensure that all those involved in these crimes are brought to justice.
