Rybakina dismantles Raducanu, proceeding to the US Open's fourth round.
Elena Rybakina Advances to US Open Quarterfinals
Elena Rybakina, the ninth seed, secured her place in the quarterfinals of the US Open 2022 with a dominant performance against Emma Raducanu. The match, which lasted just 62 minutes, saw Rybakina break Raducanu's serve in the opening game of the first set and never look back.
Rybakina's powerful delivery was a significant factor in the match, as she landed 47% of her first serves. This strong service game put pressure on Raducanu, who struggled with errors throughout the contest. Rybakina saved two break points and was greeted by a loud cheer of encouragement from the crowd.
Raducanu dropped her serve in the first game of the second set, and Rybakina broke again, prompting Raducanu to vent her frustration by swiping her racquet. Rybakina sealed victory with an ace and a forehand winner, winning the match with a score of 6-1 6-2.
Rybakina expressed optimism about her chances to go as far as possible in the tournament, sharing that she has struggled in the past at the U.S. Open, but hopes for a change this year. The Wimbledon champion, who won the tournament in July, looked satisfied with her performance and expressed eagerness for her next match.
Raducanu's defeat ends her most encouraging campaign at the U.S. Open since winning the title as a qualifier in 2017. This was their first meeting in a tournament, and Rybakina's next opponent in the quarterfinals will be either Marketa Vondrousova or Jasmine Paolini.
Rybakina will be aiming to continue her impressive form and go as far as possible in the tournament, with her sights set on a second Grand Slam title of the year.
