Saints Peter & Paul Community Gathers for Fr. Joseph MacNeill '16 Event

In the heart of New Haven, Connecticut, Holy Cross University has been buzzing with a series of captivating events.

Firstly, the University witnessed a significant gathering at the Fall 2022 Co-Curricular Extravaganza, held on Saturday, September 10, 2022. This event, sponsored by Holy Cross Athletics and hosted by The Purple Key, brought together students, faculty, and alumni for a day of engagement and excitement.

One of the highlights of the week was the talk given by Fr. Joseph MacNeill, a Holy Cross alum of the Class of 2016 and the 2016 Fenwick Scholar. Fr. MacNeill, who currently serves at the Blessed Michael McGivney Parish in New Haven, delivered a thought-provoking speech titled "Blessed Michael McGivney: An American Saint for Our Times." His talk was a tribute to the founder of the Knights of Columbus, an organisation that now boasts over 2 million members across thousands of chapters.

Fr. MacNeill also emphasized the inspiring nature of Blessed Michael McGivney for American Catholics. It's worth noting that Blessed Michael McGivney was approved for beatification in 2020, a significant milestone in the Catholic Church.

Another miraculous event associated with Blessed Michael McGivney was the story of a family who, after a condition was spotted on an ultrasound, were able to welcome a healthy baby into the world. This miracle, attributed to the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney, has further solidified his status as a beacon of hope for many.

In addition to these events, Theology by the Slice, a weekly event hosted by the University, welcomed Fr. William Stempsey, SJ of the Philosophy Department. His talk titled "The Philosophy of Fly Fishing" was presented to the Society of Saints Peter and Paul on the 8th of November.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning the creation of SPEECH, Students Promoting Empathy, Expression, and Civic Harmony, a peer education group on campus that was started last year. SPEECH, founded by Caitlin MacNeil '13, Associate Director for Leadership Development, and Dean Michelle Bata, Associate Dean for Student Education, aims to foster a culture of empathy, expression, and civic responsibility among students at Holy Cross University.

These events at Holy Cross University not only celebrate the University's rich history and traditions but also look forward to a future filled with inspiration, empathy, and growth.
