The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is making strides in the energy transition, with a significant role expected in bridging traditional industries and emerging ones like hydrogen and Carbon Capture Utilisation (CCUS). One of the latest developments in this regard is the launch of a live demonstration of Swiss direct air capture specialist Climeworks' DAC testing unit at the KAPSARC site in Riyadh, KSA.

According to Gasworld Intelligence's latest Pulse report, KSA is now covered in their reports, providing valuable insights into the country's industrial gas market. The report, however, does not mention any other direct air capture companies operating in KSA, nor does it provide details on the specific technologies or methods used by Climeworks for its DAC testing unit.

The Eastern Province, a significant region in KSA, stands out in the industrial gas market. It is the largest supplier of industrial gas in the country, accounting for 50.4% of the market. The region is also the second highest by demand for industrial gas, after Makkah. Key players in the sector include Saudi Aramco, which leads major gas projects like the Jafurah gas field, and BlackRock, through its unit Global Infrastructure Partners. The partnership between Aramco and BlackRock-led investors reflects a significant move in the industrial gas sector, with Aramco holding 51% and BlackRock-led investors 49% of the Jafurah Midstream Gas Company.

SABIC, Air Products, Air Liquide, and Linde are other leading players in the industrial gas market in KSA. The report does not mention any other specific regions or companies in the industrial gas market. This development by Climeworks marks a step forward in KSA's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and contributing to the global fight against climate change. As the country continues to invest in and develop its industrial gas sector, it is poised to play a crucial role in the energy transition.
