Save your money on costly seed potatoes. "Pyatyrok" variety doesn't disappoint when it comes to yield.

In the world of gardening, a success story is always worth sharing. Ded CTB, the author of the popular Russian agriculture blog "Ded CTB - RUSSKAYA HOZYAYSTVA," has recently demonstrated that a bountiful potato harvest is possible even in a drought summer.

Ded CTB decided to test the potatoes from Pyaterochka, a popular Russian supermarket, on a small plot of land. To his surprise, 80% of the harvested tubers measured a impressive 20-25 cm in length, a significant increase compared to typical potato harvests.

So, how did Ded CTB achieve this impressive yield? The secret lies in simple steps for potato cultivation that are accessible for many people. The potatoes were planted in the spring at a depth of 10-15 cm, with a distance of 30 cm between bushes and 70 cm between rows.

To protect against diseases at a low cost, Ded CTB recommends soaking the tubers in a manganese solution (1 g/10 l of water) for 30 minutes before planting. Additionally, mixing potato planting with mustard (20 g/m2) can protect against wireworms and enrich the soil with nitrogen.

Regular tubers in a rainy summer (60-80% humidity) can give 200-300 kg per square meter. However, Ded CTB's test demonstrates that it is possible to have a large potato harvest even in a drought summer, as long as proper care is taken.

The minimal care required includes weeding once, treating for Colorado potato beetle twice (for example, with "Actara", 1 ml/5 l of water), and hilling once or twice. Despite the drought conditions, Ded CTB's potatoes yielded 1.5 buckets (approximately 15-20 kg) of large tubers (20-25 cm) from three bushes.

It's important to note that the weather and care are more important factors for a successful potato harvest than the price of the seeds. Ded CTB advises against believing the claims of "a bucket per bush" for high prices, as these claims can be misleading. Expensive varieties can yield up to 400 kg per square meter, but this is not guaranteed in all conditions.

The harvest period for Ded CTB's potatoes was in August-September. With these simple steps and a bit of care, you too could be enjoying a bountiful potato harvest this coming summer.
