Traton Faces Challenges Amidst US Customs Duties and Global Uncertainties

Traton, a unit of Germany's Volkswagen group, is currently facing a wait-and-see attitude from its US customers due to customs duties. This has led to a significant decline in orders, worsening market conditions, and resulting in forecast revisions and, consequently, job cuts.

The company, which employs 59,000 people worldwide, including Scania's workforce, has announced layoffs. However, it has not specified the new market conditions that necessitated these measures. It's worth noting that the job cuts do not affect any manufacturing jobs at Traton.

In an effort to ensure its strength in the future, Traton is reviewing its organisational structure and taking steps to adapt and develop its ways of working. The company sold four percent fewer vehicles in the first half of this year, and the results have been affected by the appreciation of the Swedish krona.

Traton received support from the US government in the North American truck market, but global uncertainties, such as US tariffs, have contributed to the decline in orders. The company is working diligently to navigate these challenges and secure its position in the competitive market.

In the wake of these changes, 400 people in the human resources department and 300 in business units will be affected by the job cuts at Traton. The company is committed to supporting its employees during this transition and ensuring a smooth process for everyone involved.

As Traton continues to navigate these challenging times, it remains focused on its mission to deliver high-quality vehicles and services to its customers, while also ensuring a sustainable future for the company.
